In this session, Bill will walk through step-by-step how to migrate an existing on-premises SQL Server 2008 R2 database to the Microsoft cloud database version of SQL Server, called SQL Azure

Bill Emmert is the Technical Director and a Technology Architect in the Philadelphia Microsoft Technology Center (MTC). He has been working at Microsoft for the last 13 years focused on solutions around Microsoft SQL Server and Business Intelligence. Bill has worked in the computer industry for 25 years with experiences in mainframe development, LAN architecture and administration, client server application development, database design & administration, project management, consulting and management. Bill started his career at Microsoft in Consulting Services focusing on design, development, testing, deployment and troubleshooting SQL Server OLTP and OLAP solutions. In 2007, Bill joined the SQL Server product group as a member of the SQL Server Customer Advisory Team (SQLCAT), and in 2010 worked in the New York MTC as a Technology Architect.

7:00 Jim Priestley Real Word Windows Azure; Using Azure Storage to Host 700,000 Product Images and serve 27,000 Unique Visitors per Day for less than $50 per Month!

Jim will review how he and his team leverage Azure Storage to host the image catalog of PlcCenter.com, Radwell’s B2B website. PlcCenter.com was migrated to Azure in January of 2011, and regularly sees more than 27,000 unique visitors per day, and generates nearly one million dollars per month in direct online sales. This session will start with a discussion on the financial and performance benefits of using Azure for hosting, and the deployment lessons learned. Then we will quickly go into a demo of how the 700,000 image catalog is synchronized, with Azure storage. We will also dig into SSL configuration for blobs, Azure CDN, and Azure Storage Analytics.

Jim Priestley, is Vice President of Information Technology, at Radwell International, Inc. Jim has over 17 years’ experience designing and developing systems in the Retail and Manufacturing industries, specializing in integrating custom business apps with Dynamics GP and Dynamics CRM, using the Microsoft stack. Jim and his wife have five children, and live at the Jersey Shore. When he is not building software, Jim enjoys camping with his son’s Boy Scout Troop, and long distance cycling.
